Great food and great friends is one of the best formula for a great night. For Manus’s 30th birthday, we threw a surprise birthday party at BJ’s Brewery. Enriched with dark wooden charming interiors along with stimulating big screen televisions, the part sports bar part restaurant created an ambiance with energy that radiated throughout the restaurant.

Dining with twenty people can be fun. A taste test just amounted to a great time. Starting with the appetizer combo, the comfort food binge started with chips dipped in a rich artichoke dip. Crispy Buffalo wings dunked in a cool ranch dressing heightened my senses. Refreshing my palate, my bottomless raspberry soda with a hint of lemon did the trick.

The deep dish pizza with tomato and cheese was a disappointment. The crust lacked character, including a crispy crust and the sauce simply did not excite the palate. For deep dish in the Bay Area, Zachary’s is a better bet. This goes to show that certain places that specialize in certain dishes should be targeted.

With a sweet tangy dressing, the BBQ chicken salad is just as good, if not better than the one served at California Pizza Kitchen. Crispy onion rings rounded out the dishes along with crispy iceberg lettuce.

Truly, it was a night filled with laughter and gluttony.
