Win Wah Chinese Dli
Wan Chai district Hong Kong
(note: complete address not noted)
During lunch time, you will find salary men/women eating rice lunch boxes from Chinese deli’s. These deli’s hang poached chicken, roast duck, and bbq pork store front to tempt the eyes. For just around $4 USD, these lunch boxes are filled with rice, a meat dish, and some vibrant green vegetables.
I tried Win Wah in Wan Chai is the rice box mixed the mark. I decided to order the bbq pork with roasted succulent pork. The pillowy rice acted as a great base, but the bbq pork was off the mark. Each piece, over 70% was fat while a mere 30% had meat.
With crispy skin, the roasted pork skin paired well with tender pork meat. Sweet vibrant green and pillowy rice with sweet soy made the dish nominal.
Chinese deli’s are at every corner, and quality control is a must especially for these mom ‘n pops. Otherwise, the local people will end up going to fast food chains such as Café de Coral where they will likely serve more consistent food.
